General CommentsIf you own a VW TDI 2010 or older....SELL IT! Sell it before you get to 80k miles. At this point you risk the Particulate Filter (PF) going bad and it is a $6000+ repair that VD Recommends being done between 90k and 130k miles. This is about the same time you will need to spend Apx. $3k for scheduled Maintenance like timing belt, etc.
Consumers and TDI Owners need to know about this issue.
VW has been an irresponsible car manufacture by allowing this design and not supporting their customers and consumers.
Yes I own this car and Yes it is Fun to Drive and other than this a good car, except for the Silly required Maintenance costs.

Yes, I recommend this vehicle.
Pros 32mpg city/45mpg hwy and space like an SUV. Lower roofline makes roof rail system much more accessible than an SUV. Lots of power in city driving. Porsche tipronic, Audi quality, tech with hi-line bluetooth module is better than what is offered in most luxury cars. Also, the Federal alternative fuel vehicle credit.
Cons The VW reliability history of the past ten years prior to '06. Newer models seem to be doing better.
General CommentsI have owned this car since May. It is a fantastic car for the money. I looked at the Audi A3 (similar) but the price and quality of the Audi-like VW won me over. I came from a 2009 Infiniti G37 (beautiful car) that got 16.5 mpg in city. I have doubled my mileage and have much more room and comfort. It is not as sporty looking but I can haul like an SUV. For the average person it is difficult to find a car that does it all. The mpg kings - Prius, CIvic, and Corolla are nice but they are small. The MINI is nice but small and $$$. The diesels are, in my opinion, one of the best options for mpg. This model adds another benefit - SUV-like cargo space. The best SUV mpg-wise is the Escape. This has more cargo space and gets better mileage overall AND handles better. Why not?! The car is flexible. I have heard about the 28 or so cars that their fuel pumps failed but out of the 70,000 or so sold so far, that number is probably normal for issues. The Toyota brake failure cover-up that the Fed is now suing over is much more widespread. Hopefully I will enjoy the car with no major issues. It drives nicely and has a great deal of power, especially in city driving.

Pros Great fuel mileage, fun to drive, one touch windows, heated seats,
German engineering,
Cons Noisy inside the cab, sounds like a wind tunnel. I block it out by turnning up the stero but I wish it was insulated a little better, between ground and wind it's too much.
